Philippines Sets New Air Quality Standard

The Philippines has set a new air quality standard for fine particles measuring 2.5 microns and smaller in an effort to improve the public's health reports philstar.com.

The new rules provide tougher standards which will come in to effect some time after 2015.  The pollution limits will be lowered approximately 30% from the current levels.

Particles of this size are often found in smoke from factories and forest fires and once inhaled can cause serious health problems which effect the heart and lungs.
